Abstract

The aim of this article is to provide an understanding of gender stereotypes that occur in electoral political contests. These stereotypes encompass negative perceptions of women's competence, traditional understandings of gender roles, and expectations regarding women's physical appearance in politics. The article underscores the need for a change in the perception and representation of women in politics, with an emphasis on ensuring equal political rights and fair opportunities for women and promoting a diverse and enriched image of women in the political arena. This paper employs a qualitative descriptive methodology, with data collected through a literature review. The conclusions drawn from this study suggest that addressing the barriers posed by gender stereotypes in politics necessitates the elimination of gender bias, widespread education, and socialization on gender equality, the implementation of affirmative policies such as quotas for women in parliaments, the creation of an inclusive environment for women's participation in politics and educating voters on the importance of gender equality in politics. Active campaigns to combat gender stereotypes through various communication media and sustained efforts are expected to overcome gender stereotypes in electoral politics, enabling women to participate equally and significantly in the political sphere.
